1Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
2We always thank God for all of you, remembering you in our prayers
3and continually recalling before our God and Father your work of faith, your labor of love, and your enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4Brothers who are beloved by God, we know that He has chosen you,
5because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake.

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy write to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. The greeting is short, but it locates the church carefully. These people belong to God, and the letter begins with grace and peace rather than with a demand.
Paul says they always thank God for all of them and remember them in prayer. His gratitude is specific. He recalls their work of faith, labor of love, and enduring hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith, love, and hope are not decorative words here. They become visible in what the people do, how hard they serve, and how they continue when waiting becomes difficult.
Paul calls them brothers beloved by God and says he knows God has chosen them. Their response to the gospel gives him reason for that assurance. His thanks go to the God whose love and choice stand behind the life he sees among them.
