Weapons of Righteousness
1Now by the mildness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am humble when face to face with you, but bold when away.
2I beg you that when I come I may not need to be as bold as I expect toward those who presume that we live according to the flesh.
3For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh.
4The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the flesh. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
6And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete.

Paul appeals by the mildness and gentleness of Christ. Some people say he is humble when present but bold when absent, and Paul knows he may need courage when he comes. He is not eager to intimidate. His authority must resemble the Lord who gave it.
Paul acknowledges that believers live in the flesh, in ordinary human bodies and circumstances. But he says they do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of their work are not manipulation, violence, insults, or worldly power. They have divine power to demolish strongholds.
Paul explains the strongholds as arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God. He speaks of taking every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. The target is falsehood and proud resistance to God, not people who happen to disagree or family members who need to be controlled.
Paul says they will be ready to punish disobedience when the Corinthians' obedience is complete. Even this difficult sentence is placed inside a concern for the church's restoration. Spiritual authority is not a license for threats or abuse. It must serve truth, protect the community, and answer to Christ.

Prayer
Jesus, make our strength gentle and our thinking obedient to You. Help us confront lies without attacking people, use authority to build up, and keep every conflict under Your truth. Amen.
