Christ's Love Compels Us
11Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
12We are not commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart.
13If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
14For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died.
15And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again.

Paul says that knowing the fear of the Lord moves him to persuade people. This fear is not panic before a cruel master. It is the serious awareness that Christ sees the truth, including the motives hidden behind public appearances. Paul wants his conduct to be clear to God and, he hopes, to the Corinthians' consciences.
Some people were judging Paul by outward appearance. He refuses to turn his ministry into a contest over who looks more impressive. If he appears beside himself, it is for God; if he is of sound mind, it is for the church. Either way, his life is directed away from self-display.
The reason is Christ's love. Paul is convinced that One died for all, and that those who live should no longer live for themselves. Jesus' death and resurrection change the center of a person's life. Christian obedience is not a strategy for earning love; it is a response to love already given.
Paul's words do not erase personality or healthy rest. They ask a deeper question: who is directing our energy? Christ's love moves His people toward a life that belongs to Him and serves others rather than treating the self as the final measure of what matters.
