11This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Edom, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and stifled all compassion; his anger raged continually, and his fury flamed incessantly.
12So I will send fire upon Teman to consume the citadels of Bozrah.”
13This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their territory.
14So I will kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah to consume its citadels amid war cries on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of tempest.
15Their king will go into exile—he and his princes together,” says the LORD.

The LORD’s judgments now address Edom and Ammon. Edom pursued his brother with the sword and stifled compassion. His anger kept raging and his fury kept burning. The charge concerns a settled refusal of mercy toward people bound to him by kinship.
The LORD will send fire upon Teman to consume Bozrah’s citadels. Edom’s protected places cannot shield him from responsibility for that relentless violence.
Ammon is charged with attacking pregnant women in Gilead to enlarge its territory. The desire for more land became a reason to destroy vulnerable lives. The LORD names this cruelty as the reason for judgment.
Fire will burn Rabbah’s walls and citadels amid battle cries and a violent wind. Ammon’s king and princes will go into exile together. Their positions will not spare them from the consequences of the violence committed for their nation’s gain.

God of mercy, protect families caught in violence and expansionist ambition. Restrain rage, expose cruelty, and teach us to defend human dignity even when relationships and nations are divided. Amen.
