Haggai 2:6-9
The Latter Glory of This House

6For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
7I will shake all the nations, and they will come with all their treasures, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.
8The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, declares the LORD of Hosts.
9The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former, says the LORD of Hosts. And in this place I will provide peace, declares the LORD of Hosts.”

The people have been asked to work on a house that seems small beside its former glory. The LORD’s next promise reaches far beyond what their building efforts can accomplish. He will shake the heavens and earth, the sea and dry land, and all the nations.
The nations will come with their treasures, and He will fill this house with glory. The silver and gold already belong to Him. The resources of the world are not beyond the reach of the God who calls this community to build.
He promises that the house’s latter glory will exceed its former glory. The comparison that discouraged the people is answered by His word about its future. They cannot judge everything He intends by what they see before them now.
The final promise is peace in this place. God’s purpose includes more than a more impressive appearance. He will give the glory and peace that the people cannot produce by construction alone.
Haggai does not explain every stage by which these promises will be fulfilled. He gives discouraged builders reason to obey while trusting the LORD with the future. His rule over nations and His ownership of their treasures place their small work within a purpose much larger than their present resources.
How We Know
Hebrews 12:26–29 quotes the promise of another shaking of earth and heaven. It explains the removal of what can be shaken so that the unshakable remains, then calls believers to grateful, reverent worship because they are receiving an unshakable kingdom. This direct use of Haggai carries the promise beyond the builders’ immediate comparison of the two temples.

What This Means for Us
God’s command to work comes with promises only He can fulfill. The builders are responsible to obey, while the glory and peace remain His gifts.
Separate a present responsibility from an outcome you cannot control. Do the work entrusted to you, and pray about what lies beyond it. Hebrews directs us to gratitude and reverent worship because God gives His people an unshakable kingdom.

LORD of Hosts, the world and its treasures belong to You. Help us serve faithfully without trying to control the future. Thank You for the kingdom You give and the peace only You can provide. Amen.
