Job 26:1-14
God's Greatness Is Unsearchable
1Then Job answered:
2“How you have helped the powerless and saved the arm that is feeble!
3How you have counseled the unwise and provided fully sound insight!
4To whom have you uttered these words? And whose spirit spoke through you?
5The dead tremble—those beneath the waters and those who dwell in them.
6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
7He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth upon nothing.
8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their own weight.
9He covers the face of the full moon, spreading over it His cloud.
10He has inscribed a horizon on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
11The foundations of heaven quake, astounded at His rebuke.
12By His power He stirred the sea; by His understanding He shattered Rahab.
13By His breath the skies were cleared; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
14Indeed, these are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His power?”

Job asks how Bildad has helped the powerless, saved the arm without strength, counseled the unwise, and revealed sound wisdom. The questions are edged with irony because Bildad's words have not helped Job carry his suffering.
Job then speaks about God's power. The dead tremble, Sheol lies naked, God stretches the north over the void, hangs the earth on nothing, binds up waters in clouds, and keeps the cloud from bursting beneath them. The poetry gives creation an order human beings cannot maintain.
God draws a boundary over the face of the waters, and the pillars of heaven tremble at His rebuke. By His power He stirs the sea and crushes Rahab; by His breath the heavens are cleared. The images describe cosmic authority, not a scientific diagram.
Job concludes that these are only the fringes of God's ways, a faint whisper of His power. The friends have spoken of God as though they possess the whole explanation. Job's vision is more reverent because it recognizes that what humans hear is only a small part of the whole.
