35The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
36When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37And when the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
38Jesus turned and saw them following. “What do you want?” He asked. They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39“Come and see,” He replied. So they went and saw where He was staying, and spent that day with Him. It was about the tenth hour.
40Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John’s testimony and followed Jesus.
41He first found his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated as Christ).
42Andrew brought him to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated as Peter).

The next day John is standing with two of his disciples. When he sees Jesus passing by, he says again, “Look, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples hear him and follow Jesus.
Jesus turns and sees them following. He asks what they are seeking. They call Him Rabbi and ask where He is staying. Jesus says, “Come and see.” They go, see where He is staying, and remain with Him that day.
Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, is one of the two. He first finds his own brother Simon and tells him that they have found the Messiah. Andrew brings Simon to Jesus.
Jesus looks at Simon and gives him a new name: Cephas, which means Peter. The encounter begins with John's witness, continues through personal attention, and moves outward as one brother brings another.
John's testimony has led his own disciples to another teacher. That is what pointing to the Lamb of God looks like: Jesus receives their attention. Andrew then brings his brother, but he does not decide what Simon will become. Jesus knows Simon's name and gives him another. The people who introduce someone to Jesus have a real part to play, while the authority to call and direct that person belongs to Him.

We can invite someone to read a Gospel with us or speak plainly about why we trust Jesus. We need not script the person's response or claim responsibility for what only Christ can do. Andrew brings Simon, and Jesus addresses him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, make us willing to come and see, and willing to bring others to You without making ourselves the center. Give our household words that are honest, inviting, and faithful. Amen.
