Rest for the Weary

25At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
27All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.
28Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Jesus thanks the Father for hiding these things from the wise and understanding and revealing them to little children. He is not praising ignorance. He is exposing the pride that assumes God's truth can be mastered without humility. The Son knows the Father and reveals him to those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Jesus then invites all who labor and are heavy laden to come to him. He promises rest, but the rest comes through taking his yoke and learning from him. His yoke is easy and his burden is light because he is gentle and humble in heart, not because following him requires nothing.
A yoke joins an animal to a task and to the one directing the work. Jesus is not offering escape from every responsibility. He offers a different master and a different way to carry life. His authority is gentle, unlike teachers who burden people while refusing to help them.
Families can bring exhaustion, grief, guilt, and confusion to Jesus without pretending they are fine. They can also ask whether a burden comes from Jesus' call or from perfectionism, fear, people-pleasing, or a leader's demands. Rest may involve sleep, prayer, medical care, counseling, shared work, or a necessary boundary.
Ask what your household needs to lay down and what it needs to learn from Jesus. The invitation is personal, but it is not passive: come, take, and learn.
