Psalm 29:1-11
Give the LORD Glory
1A Psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
2Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.
3The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the LORD is heard over many waters.
4The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
5The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
6He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
7The voice of the LORD strikes with flames of fire.
8The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
9The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, “Glory!”
10The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever.
11The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.

The psalm calls the sons of God to give the LORD glory and strength, worshiping in the splendor of holiness. Then the voice of the LORD rolls across the waters and the cedars. The storm is not treated as a god; it becomes a stage on which God's voice reveals unmatched power.
The thunder breaks cedars, flashes flames, shakes the wilderness, and twists the oaks bare. The repeated phrase “the voice of the LORD” gives the storm a rhythm. God is enthroned over the flood, and His kingship is older and stronger than the forces that frighten people.
The closing request is tender: may the LORD give strength to His people and bless them with peace. The God whose voice shakes creation does not leave His people merely impressed. His power is turned toward their strength and peace.
