Psalm 87:1-7
His Foundation Is on the Holy Mountain
1A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A song. He has founded His city on the holy mountains.
2The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3Glorious things are ascribed to you, O city of God. Selah
4“I will mention Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me—along with Philistia, Tyre, and Cush—when I say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”
5And it will be said of Zion: “This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High Himself will establish her.”
6The LORD will record in the register of the peoples: “This one was born in Zion.” Selah
7Singers and pipers will proclaim, “All my springs of joy are in You.”

The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. The city of God is established on the holy mountain, and glorious things are spoken about it. Yet the glory is not merely its architecture. God Himself records peoples in Zion's register.
Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush are named as places from which people were born there. The list is surprising because former outsiders and rivals are gathered into the identity of God's city. The Most High establishes Zion and counts its citizens.
Singers and musicians will say that all their springs are in Zion. The psalm imagines belonging as a gift that reaches across old boundaries, with God as the One who gives the city its meaning.

God who gathers peoples, widen our welcome without weakening truth. Make our community a place where former outsiders find real belonging and where life flows from Your presence. Amen.
