11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

God's grace has appeared, bringing salvation to people of every kind. Paul has just addressed different ages and positions in the church. Now he explains the saving grace that makes their new way of life possible.
Grace also teaches. It calls believers to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live with self-control, uprightness and devotion to God. Salvation does not leave conduct untouched. The kindness that rescues sinners trains them to live differently now.
Believers do this while waiting for the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ, whom Paul calls our great God and Savior. Christian hope looks toward a Person and His coming, and that hope gives purpose to present obedience.
Jesus gave Himself to redeem us from lawlessness and purify a people who belong to Him, eager for good deeds. His sacrifice is the source of their new life; good works are its intended fruit. Being His people means freedom from the old mastery of sin and a desire to serve Him.
Titus must teach these things with authority, encouraging and rebuking as needed. The message includes both the grace that saves and the holy life that grace teaches. Neither should be lost when the church instructs its people.

Remember whom you are waiting for. The Savior who gave Himself for you will appear in glory; ordinary obedience today belongs within that hope.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Yourself to redeem and purify us. Train us by Your grace, make us eager for good deeds and keep our hope alive as we await Your appearing. Amen.
