A Pure Devotion to Christ
1I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness, but you are already doing that.
2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. For I promised you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
3I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.
4For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it very easily.

Paul asks the Corinthians to put up with a little foolishness, and then admits that they are already doing so. His tone is not ordinary boasting. He is speaking with the irony and intensity of a parent or guardian who fears that people he loves are being led away from what is true.
Paul says he is jealous for them with a godly jealousy. He promised them to one husband, Christ, and wants to present them as a pure virgin to Him. The image describes undivided allegiance, not a claim that women or marriage make someone spiritually lesser.
His fear reaches back to Eve's deception by the serpent's cunning. The Corinthians' minds may be led astray from a simple and pure devotion to Christ. The danger is not thoughtful questions or honest wrestling. It is being persuaded to abandon the true Jesus for a message that sounds spiritual but changes the center.
Paul names the test: someone proclaims a different Jesus, a different spirit, or a different gospel, and the Corinthians put up with it easily. The church needs love, but love cannot mean treating every message as equally faithful to Christ.
