Seeing and Remaining Blind

35When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, He found the man and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36“Who is He, Sir?” he replied. “Tell me so that I may believe in Him.”
37“You have already seen Him,” Jesus answered. “He is the One speaking with you.”
38“Lord, I believe,” he said. And he worshiped Jesus.
39Then Jesus declared, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see and those who see may become blind.”
40Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this, and they asked Him, “Are we blind too?”
41“If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”

Jesus hears that the leaders have cast the healed man out. He finds him and asks whether he believes in the Son of Man. The man asks who that is so that he may believe in Him.
Jesus tells him that he has seen Him, and the One speaking with him is He. The man says, “Lord, I believe,” and worships Jesus.
Jesus says He came into the world for judgment, so that those who do not see may see and those who see may become blind. Some Pharisees near Him ask whether they are blind too.
Jesus answers that if they were blind, they would have no guilt; but because they say they see, their guilt remains. The man who was blind receives sight and worships Jesus, while the confident leaders remain unwilling to admit their need.
The difference is visible in their questions. The man asks who the Son of Man is because he wants to believe. The Pharisees ask whether Jesus is calling them blind, defending their claim to see. Jesus' answer does not make physical blindness a measure of innocence. He exposes the guilt of claiming understanding while rejecting the One who has made Himself known.

Jesus finds a person whom religious authorities have expelled. Families should notice that belonging to Jesus may bring social loss, while Christ Himself does not abandon the person who has been pushed out.
Spiritual blindness is not ignorance alone; it can be the refusal to admit what we need to see. Ask where confidence has made your household less teachable.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, find us when we are cast out and open our eyes to who You are. Keep our household teachable, worshipful, and honest about the blindness pride can create. Amen.
