Sight for the Blind Beggar

35As Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting beside the road, begging.
36When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
37“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by,” they told him.
38So he called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39Those who led the way admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40Jesus stopped and directed that the man be brought to Him. When he had come near, Jesus asked him,
41“What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “let me see again.”
42“Receive your sight!” Jesus replied. “Your faith has healed you.”
43Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

As Jesus draws near to Jericho, a blind man sits by the roadside begging. He hears a crowd passing by and asks what is happening. They tell him that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.
The man cries out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those in front rebuke him and tell him to be silent, but he cries out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” He calls for more than help from a passing teacher. Earlier in Luke, God promised that Jesus would receive David's throne and reign forever. This man appeals to that king for mercy.
Jesus stops and commands that he be brought to Him. Jesus asks what he wants, and the man says he wants to recover his sight. Jesus tells him to recover his sight; his faith has made him well.
Immediately he recovers his sight and follows Jesus, glorifying God. All the people see it and give praise to God. The crowd tries to silence him, but Jesus makes room for his request and turns his restored life into public praise.

Faith here is persistent dependence, not a guarantee that every medical need will be instantly healed. Let the account make your household more attentive to people whose voices are routinely silenced.
Prayer
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on people who are overlooked or silenced. Give our household ears to hear urgent cries, courage to make room, and gratitude that follows You with praise. Amen.
