Psalm 24:1-10
Who May Ascend?
1A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof, the world and all who dwell therein.
2For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.
3Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place?
4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear deceitfully.
5He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from the God of his salvation.
6Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. Selah
7Lift up your heads, O gates! Be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may enter!
8Who is this King of Glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9Lift up your heads, O gates! Be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may enter!
10Who is He, this King of Glory? The LORD of Hosts—He is the King of Glory. Selah
Berean Standard Bible
The earth belongs to the LORD, along with everything in it. He founded it on the seas, so no human owner can claim ultimate possession. The opening grounds worship in creation: we enter God's presence on land that already belongs to Him.
The question follows: who may ascend God's hill and stand in His holy place? The answer names clean hands, a pure heart, freedom from falsehood, and refusal to swear deceitfully. The person who receives blessing seeks God rather than using religion to disguise divided motives.
Then the gates are commanded to lift their heads for the King of glory. He is strong and mighty in battle, the LORD of Hosts. The repeated question makes the procession feel public and communal. God's glory is not a private possession; the whole earth is summoned to recognize the King.

What This Means for Us
Worship cannot be separated from honesty. Before asking whether a service felt moving, ask whether our hands, motives, and speech are being brought into the light.
The opening also changes how we hold possessions. We are stewards on God's earth, not owners with no account to give. Reverence should make our use of creation and resources more responsible.
Prayer
King of glory, purify our motives and make our hands truthful. Teach us to receive the earth as Your gift and to live as faithful stewards beneath Your authority. Amen.
