Silence before the Trumpets

Before reaching for an explanation, stay with the image. When the Lamb opens the seventh seal, there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. Seven angels stand before God and receive seven trumpets. Another angel offers incense with the prayers of the saints on the golden altar before God, and smoke rises with those prayers. The angel then fills a censer with fire from the altar and throws it to the earth amid thunder, rumblings, lightning, and an earthquake.

Silence comes before the next judgments, and the prayers of the saints are placed at the center of the altar scene. The image gives weight to prayer without promising that its timing will be easy to understand. Notice how the vision joins what is seen to the response it asks for. That keeps the vision connected to a life of worship instead of turning it into a free-floating religious slogan.

Do not treat the half hour as a timetable for prayer answers. Nor should the fire imagery be used to frighten children into religious performance. Read the warning as a call to humility, not as a license for confident prediction. That is why this unit deserves careful reading rather than a confident shortcut. At the table, practice a brief silence together before prayer. Name one injustice or sorrow, then entrust it to God without pretending you control what happens next. Give every listener room to ask what they noticed before offering an interpretation. A reverent conversation can include uncertainty without becoming anxious.
