Silence at the Seventh Seal

1When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
2And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and they were given seven trumpets.
3Then another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne.
4And the smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, rose up before God from the hand of the angel.
5Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it to the earth; and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.
6And the seven angels with the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.

When the Lamb opens the seventh seal, there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. John sees seven angels standing before God, and seven trumpets are given to them.
Another angel comes and stands at the altar with a golden censer. He is given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense rises with the prayers before God.
The angel takes the censer, fills it with fire from the altar, and throws it on the earth. There are peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. The seven angels prepare to blow their trumpets.
The silence begins when the seventh seal opens. Before the trumpets sound, the vision shows the prayers of all the saints rising with incense before God. Their prayers are not forgotten as judgment approaches. The golden altar stands before His throne, and the angel's offering is received in His presence.
The altar connects worship before God with His judgment on earth. The churches listening to John can keep praying even when the earth is troubled: the Lord before whom they pray is the One who rules.
