Zechariah 5:1-4
A Scroll in Flight
1Again I lifted up my eyes and saw before me a flying scroll.
2“What do you see?” asked the angel. “I see a flying scroll,” I replied, “twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”
3Then he told me, “This is the curse that is going out over the face of all the land, for according to one side of the scroll, every thief will be removed; and according to the other side, every perjurer will be removed.
4I will send it out, declares the LORD of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain inside his house and destroy it, down to its timbers and stones.”

Zechariah lifts his eyes and sees a scroll flying through the air. The angel asks what he sees, and Zechariah gives its dimensions: twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide. The object is large enough to be noticed, and it carries words of judgment across the land.
The angel calls it the curse going out over the face of all the land. One side concerns every thief, and the other concerns every person who swears falsely by God's name. The vision joins theft and perjury. Dishonest hands and dishonest words both damage a community.
The LORD says the curse will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely. It will remain there and destroy the house down to its timbers and stones. The image is not a program for people to search one another's houses and carry out punishment. It is a prophetic picture of God's judgment reaching private wrongdoing.
The house matters because sin is often hidden behind a door. A person may appear respectable in public while stealing or lying in secret. Zechariah says that hidden places are not outside God's knowledge or justice.
The vision is severe, but it is also honest about what makes a household unstable. A house built on stolen goods or false promises is already damaged, even before judgment becomes visible. God's concern is not only ceremony at the temple. It reaches the money, testimony, and trust of ordinary homes.
