God Chose the Weak
26Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth.
27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are,
29so that no one may boast in His presence.
30It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.
31Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Paul asks the Corinthians to consider their calling. Not many were wise by human standards, powerful, or of noble birth. He does not say none were wise or wealthy. He asks them to look honestly at the community God has gathered and see that social ranking did not determine who received grace.
God chose what the world considers foolish to shame the wise, what is weak to shame the strong, and what is low and despised to bring worldly things to nothing. The repetition is deliberate. God is not impressed by the ladder people build to measure importance, and His church is not supposed to rebuild that ladder with religious language.
Paul says God chose what is not so that no one may boast before Him. Salvation leaves no room for claiming that our intelligence, family, morality, platform, or resources forced God to include us. Every good gift begins with His initiative.
Because of God, believers are in Christ Jesus, who has become their wisdom from God—righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Jesus does not merely help people make a better impression. He gives them a new standing, a new kind of life, and freedom from the debt and slavery of sin.
Paul concludes with Scripture's proper boast: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” Gratitude can celebrate a gift without pretending to be its source. A household shaped by this truth can honor excellence without using it to decide who deserves dignity.
