Jesus Christ and Him Crucified
1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
4My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
5so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

Paul reminds the Corinthians of how he came to them. He did not arrive with superior speech or wisdom, presenting the hidden testimony of God as a performance. His ministry did not depend on making the messenger look impressive.
Paul says he decided to know nothing among them except the crucified Jesus. He is not saying he taught only five words or ignored every other Christian truth. He is saying the cross was the center from which everything else received its meaning.
He came in weakness, fear, and much trembling. Those words do not describe a lack of faith. They show that Paul did not trust a commanding personality to carry the gospel. His message and preaching rested not on persuasive words of wisdom but on a demonstration of the Spirit and power.
The purpose was that the Corinthians' faith would rest on God's power rather than human wisdom. A polished speaker can win admiration, but admiration is not the same as conversion, holiness, or durable trust in Christ.
Families may feel pressure to make faith look impressive. Paul offers another center. We can speak clearly and prepare carefully, but we do not have to pretend that confidence, eloquence, or fearlessness is what makes Jesus real.
