Love One Another Deeply
22Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.
23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

Peter says the believers have purified their souls by obedience to the truth so that they have genuine love for their brothers. Obedience and love are not competing options. The truth they receive is meant to produce a real relationship with other people, not simply a more accurate vocabulary.
He tells them to love one another deeply, from a pure heart. Deep love is not a demand to feel equally close to everyone or to ignore harm in the name of warmth. It is a sustained willingness to seek another person's good without hiding behind polite religious language.
Peter grounds this command in their new birth. They were born again not from perishable seed but from imperishable seed through the living and enduring word of God. The word that created this new life is not temporary advice that becomes irrelevant when the culture changes.
