Galatians

16 devotions across 6 chapters, covering 149 verses.

Galatians is a letter written with urgency. Paul is astonished that the churches are turning so quickly from the grace of Christ to a different gospel, one that adds requirements to the good news. He does not treat this as a minor difference in church style. If people must earn their standing before God, the freedom and sufficiency of Christ have been obscured.

Paul explains that the gospel he preached did not come from human invention or a committee's approval. God revealed His Son to him, and the message sent him to the nations. He tells the story of his meetings with the apostles not to build a personality cult, but to show that the gospel of grace was recognized across the church and that even respected leaders had to be corrected when their actions contradicted it.

The heart of Galatians is the contrast between faith in Christ and relying on works of the law for righteousness. Paul honors the promise given to Abraham and explains that the law had a temporary, guarding role until Christ came. In Christ, people from every nation become children of God, clothed in Christ, and heirs of the promise. No ethnic badge or religious performance gives one believer a higher place.

Freedom does not mean using the self without restraint. It means refusing slavery to sin, fear, or human approval so that love can become the law of the community. The Spirit produces a life that pushes against the works of the flesh: hostility, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, envy, and other destructive habits. Paul places gentleness, patience, and restoration beside the call to stand firm.

The letter closes with practical weight. Bear one another's burdens, examine your own work without comparing yourself with another person, do good while you have opportunity, and do not grow weary. Paul boasts only in the cross of Christ. Galatians asks a household to receive grace without adding a ladder to it, then to let that grace become visible in patient, courageous, Spirit-filled love.
