Everyone Who Calls

28And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
29Even on My menservants and maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
30I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.
31The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.
32And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has promised, among the remnant called by the LORD.

After the promise of restored harvests, the LORD announces another gift: He will pour out His Spirit on all people. Sons and daughters will prophesy, old men will dream dreams, and young men will see visions. Even His menservants and maidservants will receive His Spirit.
The promise reaches across age and social position. The Spirit is God’s gift, and the people receiving it are not limited to those with wealth or public authority. Sons, daughters, and servants are named as recipients.
Wonders will appear in heaven and on earth: blood, fire, and columns of smoke. The sun will darken and the moon turn to blood before the great and awesome Day of the LORD. The day’s seriousness remains, but it is joined to a promise of salvation.
Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Deliverance will be found on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem among the remnant called by Him. The God who pours out His Spirit also calls people to Himself.
How We Know
Acts 2:16-21 identifies the Spirit poured out at Pentecost with Joel's prophecy and repeats the promise that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Romans 10:12-13 says there is no distinction between Jew and Greek in this salvation and uses Joel's line about calling on the Lord. The connection is explicit in the New Testament.
