The Lamb and the 144,000

1Then I looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of many waters and the loud rumbling of thunder. And the sound I heard was like harpists strumming their harps.
3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
4These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They have been redeemed from among men as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.
5And no lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

John sees the Lamb standing on Mount Zion with 144,000 who have His name and His Father's name written on their foreheads. He hears a sound from heaven like the roar of many waters and loud thunder, like harpists playing their harps.
They sing a new song before the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders. No one can learn the song except the 144,000 who have been redeemed from the earth. They have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins, and they follow the Lamb wherever He goes.
They have been redeemed from humanity as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless. The vision presents a people marked by belonging, truthful speech, and following rather than by the beast's mark.
These singers have been redeemed for God and the Lamb. Their obedience follows that rescue: they go where the Lamb leads, and their mouths are free of lies. The beast's threats have not become the voice they follow. John sees them standing with the One to whom they belong.
Christians differ over whether the language of virginity here is literal or portrays undivided fidelity to the Lamb. It must not be used to call women unclean or marriage sinful; Hebrews 13:4 honors marriage and its purity. What these verses expressly commend is clear: the redeemed follow the Lamb and speak truthfully.

Prayer
Lamb of God, thank You for redeeming a people for Yourself. Keep our words true and our loyalty undivided. Help us correct the falsehoods we have spoken and follow You willingly. Amen.
