You Shall Be as God to Pharaoh

1The LORD answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.
2You are to speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his land.
3But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I will multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
4Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt, and by mighty acts of judgment I will bring the divisions of My people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
5And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them.”
6So Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded them.
7Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.

The LORD tells Moses that he has made him like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron will be his prophet. Moses is to speak all that God commands, and Aaron is to speak to Pharaoh so that Pharaoh lets the people of Israel go out of his land.
God says he will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply his signs and wonders in Egypt. Pharaoh will not listen, but God will lay his hand on Egypt and bring Israel out by great acts of judgment. The Egyptians will know that he is the LORD when he stretches out his hand and brings Israel out.
Moses and Aaron do as the LORD commands. Moses is eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they speak to Pharaoh. The mission is not presented as youthful confidence or personal brilliance; it is obedience carried by people who have been prepared over time.
The language of Moses being like God to Pharaoh describes delegated authority for this confrontation. It does not make Moses divine or give him unlimited authority over other people. Aaron is a prophet who speaks a received message, not an owner of the message.
God announces the resistance and the outcome together. Pharaoh will refuse, but the LORD will judge Egypt and bring His people out. The Egyptians will know who He is through that deliverance. Moses and Aaron obey with this promise before them, even though they cannot make the king listen.

The brothers also obey knowing that Pharaoh will resist. Immediate agreement cannot be their measure of faithfulness. In a responsibility you are tempted to abandon, distinguish what God requires from the result you wish you could guarantee. Seek wise help, do the part entrusted to you, and leave room for God to work beyond what you can accomplish.
Prayer
LORD, keep us humble when authority is entrusted to us. Give us patience in the work of justice, courage to confront oppression, and wisdom to protect people while we wait for your deliverance. Amen.
